Current inspirations
A list of things that have activated my brain.
Every year around this time my brain lights up. Spring (in Australia) brings new bird calls, warmer weather, beautiful blooms, later nights and more greetings from strangers. At this time of year I always see friends releasing new music, I see people out in their gardens working on projects, I see so much creativity and activity AND my brain is excited to take it all in.
Here’s what’s been bringing me joy and inspiring me:
Of late, I’ve loved taking the camera (Fujifilm X100VI) out on walks to capture the things that make me stop. This beautiful flowering gum is on the corner of our street - every day it gets driven past by hundreds of cars and dozens of buses, probably missed by all those people who are focused on their destination. It makes me feel quite melancholy when I think of all the people who miss things like this to go sit in an office all day.
Our little baby Hugo usually wakes for a feed around 4am (and 12am, 2am and 5:30am… he’s unstoppable…) and at this time I’ve started to notice different bird calls. I wish I could go out on the street and witness the stillness, the lack of humans, and the presence of joyful birdsong… but instead I lie in bed and listen, waiting for us both to doze off again.
I’ve been watching “Michael Palin: Travels of a Lifetime” on Amazon Prime. It makes me laugh that I’m watching people talk about watching someone else… and yet I find this documentary heartwarming and lovely. His warmth, passion for people, and ability to shed light on joy and hardship is incredibly inspiring.
Favourite albums at the moment include: Mount Vision by Emily A. Sprague (an oldie but a goodie), The Smashing Machine (Original Soundtrack) by Nala Sinephro, The Snail and the Whale (Original Score) by René Aubry, Music is the Answer by SHEBAD, Off Off On by This is the Kit, and Messy by Olivia Dean.
Slow down folks, our presence is all that matters.
